Transitioning from academia to industry isn’t easy. I know because I’ve done it.
My name is Grace. In 2017, I graduated with a PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology. Today I’m a digital product professional in the tech industry.
I had known for years before graduating that I didn’t want to stay in academia. Because of that, I did a lot of research, talked to lots of people, and tried a lot of things. Some things worked, and some things didn’t. More importantly, I learned a lot about myself and my career goals along the way.
After making my transition, I realized that many others were also struggling to make the leap. I wanted to use the knowledge I picked up while making the move out of academia to help others looking to do the same.
This blog is my attempt to share the tips and lessons I learned during this process with humour, empathy, and curiosity. Everyone’s journey is different, but I hope that some of the things I learned will also help you on yours. I’m excited to be part of your journey!
